PROGRAM PROPOSAL
Proposal to create a teaching kitchen for youth and adults to learn Malay traditional cuisine from their elders, Preserving the past culinary traditions and recipes for the younger generation.
The goal is to create an environment in which the younger communities are able to learn how to cook for themselves. Passing down the skills from one generation to another, in order for them to be more self-sufficient.
SITE LOCATION
Our site is unit 50 located along Arab Street. Arab Street is situated within a historical area known as Kampong Gelam. Situated in an area with a large cluster of shophouses and is connected to four other units that look similar to our site.
Arab Street is a bustling cultural hub attracting a diverse crowd of people. Known for their Malay heritage, street art, eateries as well as small boutiques

CONCEPT
The idea of kampong living has heavily influenced my design decisions. This includes motifs and structural design such as the roofs seen within the space as well as the columns seen on level 1.
On level 1, there is a clear sense of the Kampong-style building, as it feels as though there is a kampong house within the building.
